Cilantro: the plant, Coriander: seeds of the plant |
When used as a spice, we refer to the seeds of the plant as Coriander, while Cilantro is the actual plant, which comes from the Spanish word for coriander.
If a recipe calls for fresh coriander that would be cilantro.
Recent research has shown that coriander is excellent to help lower blood sugar levels and aids in in digestion, in particular to help prevent flatulence.
One interesting note is surrounding arthritis, coriander being an anti-inflammatory can help in easing symptoms of arthritis. Unfortunately, there currently isn't enough information to know how coriander might work for medicinal purposes and there are over 100 different types arthritis.
Fresh Coriander
- It is a great source of dietary fibre, iron and magnesium.
- It is suggested t help people who suffers from arthritis, boil coriander seeds in water and drink the concoction. (Please consult a health specialist first!)
- Create a paste with coriander and turmeric juice to treat pimples and blackheads.
Coriander Essential Oil
Coriander essential oil is sweet, warm, herbaceous fragrance that has soothing and calming properties. It may help to support a healthy digestive and circulatory system functions.Coriander essential oil is reputed to help release emotions related to addictions such as excessive eating, and sugar cravings.
- Add a few drops to a carrier oil and massage area of body to help increase circulation
- Diffuse or inhale to help control sugar cravings
