5 Tips to Distress

As much fun as it is to see the family and to over-indulge during the holiday season, it is also nice to get back to the routine. But first, let's de-stress, a little me time is in order before we tackle our bloated stomachs and finances ...

Tip # 1. Morning Walk

Try to get up early, before anyone gets up and head outside for a walk. Make it a time for just you and the day. With the crisp, morning air, it can help to set the tone for day, clear the mind and cheer you up.

Tip # 2. Create calming aroma scene

Yes, I love essential oils. They don't get enough credit. Make sure you purchase essentials oils from a reputable supplier. Here are a few recipes for you to consider:

Combine:
  • 3 drops Mandarin Essential Oil
  • 1 drop Rose Otto Essential Oil
  • 1 drop Lavender Essential Oil
Combine:
  • 10 drops Chamomile Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
Spray: You can add this to Sweet Almond Oil or any other carrier oil (not cooking oil) and put in a dark spray bottle and spray around the home. This blend should be good for about 2-4 weeks. Store in a dark, cool place.

Bath: Same rule, you will need a carrier oil or the essential oils will stay at the top and not mix with your bath water.

Tip # 3. Clean the House

Sometimes clutter stresses us out. Do yourself a favour and hire a cleaning person to help you out and by mid-day, your home will be clean and orderly. Seriously, if your home is in order, it feels like your life is in order. Once completed, spray the home with Pure 100% Lavender Hydrosol, sit and enjoy.

Tip # 4. Leave the House

Don't feel like cleaning, feeling cranky, walking around with a frown on your forehead? Then leave the house, call up friends, your mom or with who ever you can just spend a few hours wasting the afternoon. Relax, enjoy and go to a mall, lunch, get a pedicure, take a yoga class or hit the gym. My favourite is to drive up to Mont Saint Sauveur and enjoy an outdoor activity.

Tip # 5. Try a Diffuser

There are many methods to diffuse essential oils into a room. Of course, the essential oil blend is the most fun to create as the natural aroma that fills the home is wonderful. If you don't know where to purchase a diffuser start with your local natural food store.

One more tip, try a spa couple day with your loved one, it is not just loads of fun but it will change your routine and spend quality time with a loved one! All factors that help to put a positive attitude.

Evening Primrose Oil; Eye Wrinkle Serum Recipe, Body Scrub and More

Evening Primrose Oil : Oenothera biennis

Evening Primrose Oil is considered a carrier oil in the world of aromatherapy.  It is a prized oil for its abundant food, health, cosmetic and medicinal benefits.  In particular, Evening Primrose Oil is rich in GLA and offers a natural anti-inflammatory property making it a good oil for acne and pimples.

In a report by the Mayo Clinic, researchers gave evening primrose oil a "B" on a grading scale from A to F on the amount of evidence that supports claims it relieves itching, inflammation and flaking in patients with eczema. Its anti-inflammatory effect, evening primrose oil has been used to treat skin problems like eczema, acne and rosacea. [source: Mayo Clinic].

Because evening primrose oil goes rancid pretty quickly purchase only an amount you will use within 6 months to 1 year.

How to use Evening Primrose oil

You can apply Evening Primrose directly on your skin (remember to do the patch test first!) without dilution and when you do, you will notice that your skin will absorb the oil very quickly.  However, if you have thin skin, one where it clogs quickly (get white heads) you may want to add a few drops of Evening Primrose oil to your best quality face creme and then apply this blend to your face.  Same rule goes for direct application to your eyes.  The skin around the eyes are even more delicate, so please test first.

Skin Solutions & Recipes for Cellulite

LIGHT GLACIAL CLAY BODY SCRUB FOR CELLULITE
Using mineral-rich Light Glacial Clay can seep into the skin to break down those fat cells.

Application:
  • Mix ingredients together, adding a little water to make a light paste.
  • Wipe gently over your entire body. It will leave a thin, white film and feel prickly as the paste penetrates the skin.
  • Once the paste is dry, rub gently and in circular motion so that the slough rubs off.
  • Shower in cool water and massage.
  • Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil blend to a non-scented body lotion and apply liberally.

INFUSION EXFOLIANT BODY SCRUB
This is an incredibly effective scrub that will leave your skin feeling wonderfully smooth. Once you’ve rinsed off the scrub, you will still feel a little oily, but that will quickly disappear as the oil is absorbed into your skin.
  • ¼ cup(60ml) Infusion Exfoliant
  • ¼ cup(60ml) jojoba oil or olive oil (needs to be a carrier oil)
  • 3-4 drops of your favorite essential oil
  • 2 tablespoon (30ml) mild soap-based shampoo
Application:
  • Combine ingredients into a paste and gently rub in a circular motion over your body.
  • Massage your body thoroughly and all over for at least ten minutes and again gently.
  • Rinse off well and pat dry. The oil blend from the scrub will absorb quickly.
  • Your skin will be smooth, soft and flowing.
Enjoy!

Spa Beauty Trends

  1. Float Spa. This is filled with water that's salty enough to suspend your client. The mineral-rich salt, like that of the Dead Sea, is also said to help detoxify the skin.
  2. Add Aroma:  Since there is no natural spray for green apples or cucumber, but you can provide green apple and cucumber slices tor your customer's for a healthy snack in addition to the traditional cucumber slices for the eyes.  Their aroma are very effective smells in reducing anxiety.  Don't go the dollar store route as these are just chemical fragrances and can give your clients a headache.
  3. Bright Skin:  Introduce a yogurt and honey mask for the summer season for clients looking for a natural facial peel.  Make sure the yogurt is plain and full-fat which is richer in lactic acid.
  4. Salt Rooms:  This reminds me of my father who went to Aquasanta Terme, Italy for his health.  In the middle of the city there were people sitting around a steaming water hole in the open cave breathing in the sulfur infused air with that lovely rotten egg aroma surrounding that section of the city. Well this salt room treatment is the latest trend taking its inspiration from these locations.  I'm sure these spas don't offer the rotten egg aroma.
  5. Vigorous scrubs:  Perfect for the client who looks to sooth sore muscles and loosens limbs. Glacial Salts are a very good base to create this trendy treatment!
  6. Custom Fragrances:  This hot trend allows you to create a custom fragrance, develop a unique experience for your guest, brand your treatment and sell this experience at retail level. Read full post here.
